Extract Frames From Video

That one shot in the trailer that would make a good wallpaper. Drop the file, let the tool find the cuts and pick frames off the grid — or stop at the exact moment and grab it by hand. Every PNG comes out at the video native resolution, with no re-compression.

How it works

The scan compares each frame with the previous one as a thumbnail: when the difference jumps, there was a cut. Each shot yields its middle frame, the steadiest one — the start and end of a shot tend to catch the motion of the transition. A shot under half a second is dropped, because a montage blink makes no wallpaper, and so is a frame that is too dark, which is the fade to black between scenes. Sensitivity tunes that threshold: lower it so camera movement inside one shot also becomes a candidate, raise it to stay on hard cuts only. Cropping is the step that turns a frame into a wallpaper: a trailer is usually 2.39:1 and your monitor is not, so the chosen ratio trims the excess from the centre. None of this touches a server — your own browser decodes the video, and the PNG comes off the canvas.

  • Cut detection: the tool splits the shots and shows one frame from each
  • Manual grab at the exact moment, to fix what detection caught too early
  • PNG at the original resolution, lossless
  • Centred crop to 16:9, 16:10, 21:9, 4:3 or 9:16, which is what removes the trailer letterbox
